About the School
The Sumner is committed to developing and nurturing each child's talents and abilities in a safe and academically challenging environment. Our solid academic program focuses on building a strong school climate with efforts to celebrate all levels of academic and behavioral accomplishments. We are a full-service school emphasizing the arts and school-based services. We offer services and programs such as tutoring, band, and strategic interventions through Response to Intervention. The Sumner Faculty go above and beyond to ensure each and every child has the best possible education and services. Our school is a full-service learning center that provides a variety of programs for students and families. The main focus is to extend educational opportunities to all. We have an active parent council which supports the school. We offer before and after school programs, as well as hosting literacy and math nights where parents and children 'play' together, MCAS workshops and more. Parents have two individual conferences yearly with teachers to discuss students' academic progress; parents are always welcomed.
School Performance
Student performance data displayed below is from Next Generation MCAS results. For more data on schools, please visit the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) website. For schools with multiple campuses, the data below represents all schools in that network, not just the single school, unless otherwise noted. If data is not shown, it is not available for that school (e.g. the school might not serve any tested grades, or be too small to publicly release its scores).
IMPORTANT NOTE: DESE did not issue school, district, or state accountability determinations for the 2019-2020 school year due to the cancellation of state assessments and school closures related to COVID-19. As a result, there is no student performance data available from the state for school year 2019-2020.
