UPK Seats Are Still Available for 4-Year-Olds Right Now
If you're the parent of a child who is currently 4 years old, there may be a Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) seat available for your child right now, for the rest of this current school year.
What is Universal Pre-K?
The Boston Public Schools Universal Pre-K program provides high-quality pre-kindergarten for every 4-year-old child living in the City of Boston at no cost to families. All Boston children who turned 4 years old as of September 1, 2020 are eligible for open seats during the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.
Where can I find UPK providers for my 4-year-old?
The UPK program is a full six-and-a-half hour school day at either a BPS school or at a Community-Based Organization (CBO).
I’m worried about COVID. Are UPK seats in-person or virtual?
Currently available UPK seats for 4-year-old children are offered in three learning settings: in-person, hybrid, and remote. Learning settings vary between CBOs. Each CBO is required to comply with all state and local COVID safety requirements including those issued by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC). Please contact individual providers to learn more about their COVID protocols.
How do I enroll my child in UPK? Does it cost money?
The UPK program is offered free to all Boston residents. While UPK seats are limited to children who turned 4 years old as of September 1, 2020, there are still open seats at CBOs for this current school year.
The map below provides locations for UPK sites that have open seats for this current school year. You'll need to confirm with individual providers that they still have seats available, as this map is current as of January 14, 2021.
